A Better Way To Find and Buy Affordable Vintage Synthesizers

Wow! Rare, vintage Moog Synth is found in cousin's attic. How many times have you wished you were the one telling the story to your fellow synth enthusiasts how you found a unique, valuable and rare keyboard, but only paid pennies for it? Stumbling upon a vintage collector’s synth may be a rare occurrence, but it does happen.

Rare synths have quite an appeal for synthesizer players and collectors - and for good reason. Some of the best playing keyboards date back a couple of decades or more. Popular names and highly sought after brands like Moog, Prophet VS, Prophet V, Alesis and Nord Lead,  just to name a few, are still some of the best playing, best sounding and well-made synths there are – that is, if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on any of them. Beyond their sound and quality, these keyboards are greatly appreciated for their nostalgic and historical appeal  and can be heard on some of the older LPs. So, where do you find these excellent-sounding, historical synths?

Shopping at neighborhood garage sales is not the easiest way to find rare and highly appealing synths, but through your due diligence and persistence, it probably offers you the best chance of finding a rare gem below market value. Let’s be honest, if it were easy to find rare synths below market price, we could all afford the keyboard of our dreams. Unfortunately, finding those rare deals on unique, valuable and vintage synths is about as difficult as mastering an entire piano concerto. On the other hand, nothing ventured means nothing gained. It’s worth stopping by a few garage sales once or twice a month. Also, don’t forget to check the estate sales!

Another possible way to find rare and valuable synths is through your local pawn shops. Call ahead and ask them if they have any synths for sale. They will be glad to give you the full details and their selling price for their keyboard over the phone. Don’t expect to get an amazing deal from a Pawn Shop, however. These shops know all about eBay and realize that sometimes a valuable antique may fall into their hands. They are prepared to sell it for the full eBay market price, but You Are certainly welcome to bicker and negotiate the price. Chances are, you know more about the synthesizer then do them, so be prepared to leverage your knowledge and buzz words for a better price. Now, that we’ve hinted eBay is the #1 target for vintage keyboard shopping, have you heard of Synth Sale?

Synth Sale is like an eBay Auction site on steroids. It is the quintessential way to shop for eBay deals on synths without having to type in a bunch of search phrases to find the keyboard you want. Synth Sale was designed by a synthesizer player and keyboard collector. Keyboards are not only sorted by type and brand, but by age as well. You can shop for valuable, antique keyboards by any year, type or brand. The keyboards are sorted by Brand, Model and Make, so you’re spending more time researching the exact synthesizer you want, rather than hunting all over the place for them. Most of all, Synth Sale makes it fun to auction shop for synths.
